What is the Japan Exchange Program?

American Home Life International, Inc. and Yamate Gakuin High School invite Lancaster County high school students to travel to Japan each year during the month of July. While in Japan, students tour the cities of Yokohama and Tokyo and experience Japanese culture firsthand while staying with a host family. This trip is chaperoned by area high school teachers and an American Home Life staff person.

Yamate Culture Day

History of Yamate Gakuin High School

Yamate Gakuin is a private co-educational junior and senior high school located in the suburbs of Yokohama, Japan’s second-largest city.  The school was founded in 1966, with the aim of providing a liberal education encouraging responsibility, independence, imagination and an international outlook. The Yamate Gakuin exchange program is based on the belief that international understanding is vital for the future citizens of the world, and that the best time for them to acquire that understanding is in their youth.

Any high school student is welcome to apply to for this exchange program. Applicant acceptance will be based upon a variety of criteria. For more information about this exciting opportunity, please contact Karen Kuch at 717-560-2840 or via email at karenk@amhomelife.org .
